The Psychologist
About Sofia Bacelis
Psychologist. Head Wellness Coordinator. Ibogaine alumna. The clinical and personal bridge between every patient and their healing journey.
Biography
Sofia Bacelis is the Psychologist and Head Wellness Coordinator at MindScape Retreat, the medically supervised ibogaine treatment center on Cozumel Island, Mexico. In her dual role, she guides patients through every psychological dimension of the ibogaine journey — from initial assessment and preparation through in-session support and the integration work that follows.
What sets Sofia apart within the clinical team is not just her psychology training but the depth of her personal knowledge. Sofia has undergone ibogaine treatment herself. She chose to experience the medicine directly — under medical supervision — because she understood that some forms of knowing can only come from the inside. That decision, and what it gave her, fundamentally shapes how she practices.
Her work at MindScape bridges the clinical and the experiential. She conducts pre-treatment psychological assessments, identifies relevant trauma history, and prepares patients for the specific cognitive and emotional territories that ibogaine tends to surface. During treatment sessions, she is present and attentive, able to recognize and appropriately support the range of experiences patients may encounter. In the integration phase, she designs individualized roadmaps that help patients translate the neurological reset ibogaine produces into lasting behavioral and psychological change.
As Head Wellness Coordinator, Sofia oversees the full therapeutic environment — the yoga and meditation programming, nutritional support, and the daily rhythms of life at MindScape that create the conditions for deep healing. She understands that the ibogaine session is the center, but the container matters enormously.
For patients who have spent years carrying something that conventional therapy couldn't reach, Sofia represents a different kind of clinical relationship — built not on clinical distance but on the genuine knowledge that healing is possible, because she has witnessed it in herself and in the patients she has worked with across her career.
“I know what patients are carrying when they arrive. I know the fear, the hope, and what it feels like when the medicine does its work. That knowledge doesn't come from a textbook — it comes from having been there.”
